Cicero Fire Department Promotes Six

News & Events

Town President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees were proud to approve the new promotions of six members of the Cicero Fire Department during the board meeting scheduled on Dec. 11.

Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Supervisor Joe Virruso, Assessor Emilio “Emo” Cundari, Collector Fran Reitz, and Trustees John Cava, Victor Garcia, Larry Banks and Bob Porod joined Dominick in approving the promotions during the meeting. Later, Fire Chief Dominick Buscemi swore the members into their new positions. These included 29-year veteran firefighter Pat DeChicio to Assistant Fire Chief; 25-year veteran firefighter Eric C. Habercross to Assistant Fire Chief; 18-year veteran firefighter Thomas J. Santoro to Fire Lieutenant; 17-year veteran firefighter Pat J. Sammon to Fire Lieutenant; 7-year veteran firefighter Joseph M. Vertin to Fire Engineer; and 6-year veteran firefighter Joseph W. Matthews to Fire Engineer.

“Congratulations to all of the firefighters promoted today and keep up the great work. For many years former Trustee and retired firefighter Dennis Raleigh would speak so highly of the fire department and we all know why. Cicero has the best and most professional department in the country,” Dominick said. “We also have a great police department that continues to show bravery and service. Thank you to our firefighters and first responders for all you do.”

Clerk Punzo-Arias praised the firefighters, thanking them for their dedication to saving lives and fighting fires. “They have the courage and the training and they do a great job of protecting our community and responding to emergencies.”

Trustee Victor Garcia praised the Cicero Fire Department, citing many past incidents in which many lives were saved, especially a fire this year where several residents were saved from a large apartment building fire. And Trustee John Cava also said that the citizens of the Town of Cicero recognize that Cicero has an outstanding fire and police departments.

“They are dedicated to serving our residents, keeping them safe and responding quickly to emergency calls,” Cava said.
